Prepare for college financially.

My son is a junior in high school. He has great intentions of attending college upon graduation. My question is what/how/when with the savings he has accumulated thru part time work and family inheritance prior to filing for financial aid? Our family has only 1 wage earner as I am home because of a medical condition. My son will definitely need college aid as are finances are minimal.

There are college who will help you find aid. He may have to attend an in state college and even work parttime.  He needs to work with his high school counselor and his college counselor.  I know many students who do that and work fulltime during summers.  He may even be able to find a parttime job in his field of study. He needs to start looking at college now, not wait until his senior year.  In Nebraska we have a great STate college system.  He has to work hard and not get caught up excessively in the dorm party scene.  In fact, when I was visiting in Lincoln, NE in the middle of the night at a Perkins there were college students there studying because it was impossible to study in the dorms.
