You should use premium fuel only if your operators manual says to do so. Even if it does, it will not cause any mechanical problems if you try a tank of 87 octane ( UNLEADED REGULAR). If you get an engine ping with the lower octane try half and half. If you still get a ping, your stuck with premium.

You shouldn't use premium gas in your car unless the manufacturer

recommends it.  If your car does take premium, it's probably because you have a high compression engine.

Most premium gas is different than regular only because it has a higher octane rating.  The only drivers who should bother with "premium" gas are those with higher compression or otherwise higher performance engines where the manufacturers has recommend using premium fuel.  Likewise, for the rest of their vehicles/engines, manufacturers recommend regular (87 octane).

Interestingly, the gas companies used to run ads trying to convince drivers that if they wanted to "pamper" their vehicle or wanted to "clean" their fuel injectors, they should buy premium gas.  This is simply misleading.  Regular unleaded contains detergents just like premium and most engines are actually designed to run on 87 octane so putting premium gas in them is not just a bad idea but a waste of money.

Enough. We have absolutely no privacy anymore. But a GPS in our car? It records how many miles we incentive to reduce the miles traveled in massive SUVs, pickup trucks & aging gas-guzzling cars to the environment done by gas guzzlers. They complain about high mileage cars paying less in gas
