Asked about “All-new Honda Fit in Japan”

Poor gas mileage and radio reception

Puchased new Honda Fit 2007 in July of '07. Most disappointed with MPG. Since July '07 to May '08 driving in town only averaging about 22 mpg, hwy about 28 mpg. Sticker EPA mileage says 31/38. Why so low? Have records of fuel usage. And local radio FM stations- static or fades. OK on my Toyota, Nissan, Ford, & Mazda cars since the 90s to 2008. Have brough Fit in for dealership service on both items but no help. USA

Regarding the fuel consumption, you can't compare the manufacturer's data because it is being tested on a lab not on real roads. a 10-15% difference is acceptable.

Regarding the radio reception could be caused by a problem in the cable or connections of the aerial.

I have had a smiliar experience with MPG! It is just lke you said...low 20's local and high 20's highway. It stinks b/c people come up to me and tell me how lucky i am that i must be getting great gas mileage. The 07 Civic my friend  has is doing BETTER than this car.

 It is a good car and I would have gotten it anyway probably b/c i got it for the storage versatility. However it is a shame about the gas and people who post the high MPG MUST work for honda and then they start accusing us of being heavy on the pedal. I am sick of those responses. I do not know who Honda has gotten this far with the poor MPG on this model. The press keeps reporting positive things. Nobody seems to want to make the mpg a public issue and I HAVE TONS OF PAINT CHIPS but this is another complaint!!!

Just let it go, theres no sense fighting for it.

A car could give you the manufacturers suggest MPG under the conditions where in you drive the car. Classifieds car shows certain numbers about MPG and etc but this are all tested on a controlled environment. You can drive a car and have this significant difference in MPG in driving it in the city and in the highway. You can have a difference as well if you drive it to the extent of pushing it too much or overloading it or running the car in the not recommended conditions.
