I think that I would rather trust a business that has to be accountable for its spending rather than the government that freely spends our money and borrows the rest from our children and grandchildren.  When the government has to live within its means, I will have more confidence in it.  Unfortunately, that will never happen.

Hello Lisa,

"He who pays the piper chooses the tune." If the companies accept federal support, they have to accept what comes with it.

In addition, much of what the federal government does is quite successful. Would you really want to privatize Air Traffic Control, for example? Or the management of Social Security, Medicare, or the Center for Disease Control? How many tragedies were avoided because the FDA refused to permit the sale of Thalidomide? How many lives were saved when the US government distributed the polio vaccine?

On the other hand Ford allowed the sale of the Pinto knowing that a rear end collision could cause the gas tank to explode. It was cheaper for them to settle the law suits after the accidents than recall the car before the accidents. The same decision was made by GM when they realized a design flaw in school buses. They decided it was cheaper to pay the victims than recall the buses.

It's a lousy job, but somebody's got to do it. Now that all those republican business execs have run the companies into the ground with their greed, sadly someone has to rescue them;and it's you and me.  the other option is of course to let them go broke and thousands upon thousands of people lose their jobs. Greed is the problem. For some no amount of money is ever enough.

Greed is a problem, but it is also a problem on government's side.  As Thomas Jefferson said, "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have."
