As far as I know, DirectX installation is automatic, no need to extract things to places etc.

Most games that require DirectX usually have an installation of it on their CD/DVD. I would try to use the DirectX installation from there.

If you have a genuine Windows you can go to Microsoft Update and install DirectX 9 (or even 10 if its available for you). It should automatically install it for you.
