Plumbing: Copper vs (new) tube piping...

Jamie, what kind of tubing was used? Is it clear or translucent plastic, or is it opaque rubber? I'm asking to find out what type of plastic was used, if it is plastic. You say some metal pipe was used- is it shiny silver or black pipe? Does it connect directly to the copper pipe you already have? It sounds like the plumber had to fish his water line through some hard-to-reach places, so using a flexible line was probably necessary.

if his a real plumbing I'm sure he used either brass pipe or copper if his a fly by night guy, if he used black pipe your screwed black pipe with water makes rust, which can make you sick if you drink or cook with it. I hope this asnwered you question good luck.

what if he is not? just an average plumber. In some Hawaii Plumbing they all do good even they are just starting to learn.

I'm work with new york plumber not Hawaii plumbers sorry if you got affended, sorry to say but there are alot of contractors out there that make the good ones look bad.

Jamie, My friend dweller is right. You did not get screwed, this is standard operating procedure. A flexable tubing of plastic is used to get into the hard areas and in cabinets where it could be hit with dishes. The hard pipe is used to go down the wall and out and for the pot filler to attach to. It sounds correct to me too...

sorry you did not get the copper piping you thought you would get but there are other types of piping that would be considered acceptable by plumbing inspectors. There is CPVC which is a plastic pipe with solvent weld (glued) fittings and there is PEX which is a plastic pipe with crimp fittings which are installed with a special specific tool. there is also threaded brass pipe or threaded galvinized pipe, but it is not likely that either of those two were used as it is much more difficult (and more costly) for your aplication.
