Picking a fireplace

I am designing my new house and I would like to install a fireplace ( it is a childhood dream for me ! ) I do not know what kind should I buy , wood natural gas or propane. I am even considering an electric unit with a realistic-looking flame. any recommendations ?

I think whatever is more energy efficiant is where you want to go..

Propane is easy and fast and not as costly as electricity or polluting as wood burning.

Wood is a lot of work compared to the others, but if you're willing to accept this I think that's the way to go for you. I assume you didn't dream of a propane fireplace when you were a kid, right? :)

Personally, I would stay away from natural gas.
