How big is your dog, or what breed is it? I hope it's the larger breed like the German Shepherd or Lab. The smaller dogs don't have stamina. Be sure to bring enough water to drink and also be careful where the dog walks, their feet could easily be pricked by goatheads , broken glass, etc. When you take a short break, check the feet for anything that may have punctured the dog.
Don't hike when it's too hot, the dog may have heatstroke.
