Laurie - I've never heard that it is dangerous to give a dog a flea bath then apply Frontline.
Are we both talking about the same type of bath(not a pro-flea dip-type)? The shampoos have no warnings against Frontline or similar products on the label!!! YIKES!
What kinds of reactions do one or the other, (or both) cause and what brands of pet store flea shampoos are safe, then?
Almost ever vet that I've talked to about flea treatment/prevention on a dog, recommends Frontline over flea collars and flea baths for immediate relief. What am not getting?
.....Our first dog, many years ago, had just a couple fleas(I was about 9 or 10) and we caught it without the dog getting sick however, had to temporarily move out of the house, have it fumigated, threw out everything we couldn't wash(I agree with JKG because we did get to keep carpet that was in only in room, although we kept the dog off of it until we were sure the pros got all the fleas, which they did). It was a lot of work - those things are nasty !
We now regularly use flea and mosquito sprays outside and Frontline + heartworm preventions.
Why wouldn't the shampoos have warnings? What makes Kirk's safe and able to kill fleas? And where do you get it? - I'm just trying to understand the risk you've noticed since products can change and I'm not familiar with the ones you mentioned. (Our dog now doesn't have fleas or every had any and we like to keep as much at home ER things on hand, after that first ordeal!)
Also, is this for all dogs or those exposed to all outdoor greenery or soils that attract fleas or particular types of outdoor things? (I'd love to know incase we need to uproot anything cause it's a pain having to spray outside as soon as it the weather changes!)
Thanks.
(btw, how are your cats doing w/their diet change?)
Best,
YP
