I tried Borax in an apartment I lived in a long time ago and it worked.  Sprinkle the Borax on the carpet, let it sit for a while and vacuum it up.  The trick is that you have to throw the bag away after you vacuum it though.  Good luck!

Take your dog for a dip at the vet's, then give him a treatment of flea med that lasts up to three months.Flea bomb your house. Read the directions. Depending on the size of your house, you may need more than one bomb.Cover everthing in kitchen or put it all away and when you get back home wash everything down with soap and water. Anything else and they'll come right back. Diamateous earth is really not safe for your dog. It is mainly used in gardens to kill worms etc. that might want to eat your carrots, etc. It is very shrp tiny pieces of bony sea cratures and it can harm your pet if they should lick some up.

If you are getting bit by the fleas you have an infestation in your home. the fleas will continue to reproduce daily by the hundreds. If you have a  carpet shampoo co. come in they will use warm  water and this  will only make the  eggs  hatch due to the  warm temperature of the water.   i have numerous pets & would never  have  a carpet in the house ... you could gradually get  rid of all the carpets and put down  vinyl sheeting   inexpensive  unlike the pergo or   wood or   tiles of ceramic   dont even  use a  scatter  rug.    these fleas  will always be around as long as  theyhave a   place to lay their eggs. a flea infestation  is not healthy for everyone in the home. They multiply too fast. even when you go outside with just one on you and it jumps off it will in turn reproduce and eventually come back inside especially when it begins to get colder. Flease serve no useful purpose other than to suck blood and reproduce.   The bites will cause tularemia, brucellosis and  typhus.  you've got a problem  for sure.  thats the only advice i can offer.   the main  thing is get rid of all carpets..all.

You can have carpets and be flea free. You have to care for your animals and your house.

I disagree.

In fact, we had an experience with fleas in the spare bedroom a few months back (we had run out of the dog's flea treatment and she got infested).

We merely washed the dog several times, treated the carpet with flea spray and powder (then closed off the room for a week or so) and renewed the dog's flea treatment - and voila!

No fleas.

Haven't tried this yet but read that dawn dishwasher liquid and water in a spray bottle will do the job spray carpet and leet it dry then vacuum

Love is the law.Innocent

You are going to have to bomb the house.  I recommend Zodiac as it seems to be the best tolerated.  The stuff by RAID is too strong and causes too many allergic reactions.  You also want to spray down sofas, etc.  Dog/cat bedding should be washed in hot water, bleach and soap.  You can also use the Zodiac shampoo on yourself as well as it is for cats and gets rid of fleas, ticks, mites, lice.  Its not toxic like the stuff used for humans.  If you are ready to dye your hair, that works really well as well.  The dog HAS to be washed.  You can use a bar soap called Kirk's Coconut Castile Soap (my old groomer swore by it) and follow it up with a flea and tick bath if need be.  You cannot, however, use by the flea and tick bath and then put a product such as frontline on it as it will cause a reaction.  Use the Kirks and once the pet is dry, put the frontline plus on them.  You may have to do the whole procedure a couple of times.  If you have sandy soil outside, that is probably where they are coming from.  When you bomb the house, all food has to be put away.  If you have fish, you have to cover up the tank with plastic.  All animals, including birds have to be removed from the premises.  The house has to be closed up for about 2 hours for maximum effectiveness.  I would pick a breezy day with low humidity if possible so you can air out your house well after this.  Good Luck! Oh, you can use any flea/tick shampoo on birds so long as it has that it can be used for cats on the label.
