You're going to have to get rid of the fleas in the carpet at the same time you get rid of them on the dog.
I suggest you take your dog to be bathed and groomed. While the two of you are out, you may have to resort to flea bombing the place.
If you don't want to use a flea bomb, you can try sprinkling flea powder onto the carpets and allowing it to sit for a while before you vacuum it up. Again, you must also address the fleas on the dog; if you do not, you will keep having reinfestations.
You might look into some of the topical flea treatments which are available. Applied correctly (based on your dog's size and weight) they are generally very effective.
Consistent flea prevention treatment will usually keep this from happening. In the meantime, vacuum regularly!
I have always used the raid flea bobms just remember to have the time to leave your house for a couple hours and the animals to.
I disagree.
In fact, we had an experience with fleas in the spare bedroom a few months back (we had run out of the dog's flea treatment and she got infested).
We merely washed the dog several times, treated the carpet with flea spray and powder (then closed off the room for a week or so) and renewed the dog's flea treatment - and voila!
No fleas.
Love is the law.
You are going to have to bomb the house. I recommend Zodiac as it seems to be the best tolerated. The stuff by RAID is too strong and causes too many allergic reactions. You also want to spray down sofas, etc. Dog/cat bedding should be washed in hot water, bleach and soap. You can also use the Zodiac shampoo on yourself as well as it is for cats and gets rid of fleas, ticks, mites, lice. Its not toxic like the stuff used for humans. If you are ready to dye your hair, that works really well as well. The dog HAS to be washed. You can use a bar soap called Kirk's Coconut Castile Soap (my old groomer swore by it) and follow it up with a flea and tick bath if need be. You cannot, however, use by the flea and tick bath and then put a product such as frontline on it as it will cause a reaction. Use the Kirks and once the pet is dry, put the frontline plus on them. You may have to do the whole procedure a couple of times. If you have sandy soil outside, that is probably where they are coming from. When you bomb the house, all food has to be put away. If you have fish, you have to cover up the tank with plastic. All animals, including birds have to be removed from the premises. The house has to be closed up for about 2 hours for maximum effectiveness. I would pick a breezy day with low humidity if possible so you can air out your house well after this. Good Luck! Oh, you can use any flea/tick shampoo on birds so long as it has that it can be used for cats on the label.
Regular shampoos don't interact generally speaking unless they are the so-called herbal flea fighters which have pyrthrines. The rational behind applying Frontline and not giving a dog/cat/whatever a bath several days afterwards is that it needs time to get into the skin. A bath performed too close to the application tends to negate it. Better to give one before and make sure the pet is dry before applying the Frontline. There are so many new grooming products and lines out there that the consumer really does have to do their homework. So to reiterate, Bathe pet, dry, frontline. While the pet is drying, bomb the house. You also have to be really careful with all that pesticide use that it doesn't get into the soil or water and many people develop allergies to these as well. Kirk's Coconut Castile soap, which is a bar soap can be ordered online if you can't find it in your local supermarket in the isle where they sell barred soaps, lol. I had a heck of a time getting it and found the company on line and ordered a case of it.
hello YP1801. I had a big problem with those pesky ole' fleas ONCE. I know the flea stuff from the vets is expensive but it was worth every penny. It killed what was on the carpet and what was on the pets. if you don't want to ever have this problem or any other bug disaster, at Lowe's or Wall-Mart, or just about any hardware store they have this pellet stuff you sprinkle in and around your house.Kills fleas, ticks, ants, you name it. I have been doing this for 5 years. If your yard is fenced after the first year you can skip the flea collars and drops altogether. you just put it out before it rains. Good Luck!
Try Diatomaceous earth. It is non toxic to pets but will kill insects like fleas, roaches etc. Sprinkle on carpet and around baseboards
If it's funny, laugh. If it isn't funny, laugh anyway!
All that is good and right on, but don't forget, you have to kill the eggs that the fleas leave behind. Get a spray called Knockout E.S. by Virbac. Spray where the dogs sleeps and anywhere else that fleas can lay eggs. It will kill the fleas when they emerge from the eggs as well. It takes a while for all the fleas to die but as long as you spray, they will. I use frontline on my dog and he has no fleas as long as I keep up with it. The pills never seemed to work on him. Good Luck.
