Pet door cutting my dogs leg.

I bought a pet door and got the appropriate size for my large dog. He keeps cuting his leg on the pet door. I can't figure out why. It is the right size and he has plenty of room. what should I do?

Put some electrical tape around the edge of the opening and the door. Perhaps there is a rough edge you could file down a bit?

you should try putting padding around the edge of the dog door or look for any sharp or pointy edges onthe rim of the door

It sounds like your dog need some training...

Maybe it's too tired to get above or under the door- you didn't mention where on it's body are the cuts.

anyway, i think the first thing to do is to cover the edges of the door with cloth or a towel in order to make it softer for him- that way it won't heart your dog.

Besides, if your dog is not very old, you can try and teach him how to get safely thru the door- by simple training with a food it likes.

good luck!

Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination

Maybe your dog sways too much on one side when he walks, so he hits the same side or edge of the door each time he goes out. Feel the door where the dog would hit and then tap the rough edges with a hammer until it is smooth. Most dogs love tape or anything they can play with or chew, so be careful about it getting any of that. You might even use a file to smooth the place if not too big. If it is almost new, you can probably take it back and get one size larger. Hope this helped some.
