It's actually a very small percentage.  Most denominations don't teach tithing.  Some "take" offerings, which is pretty much a form of taxation.  Some are too busy "raising" money with their chicken barbecues, and yard sales to devote much time to God's way of doing things.  Tithes and offerings are to be given in thanksgiving and honor to The one who blessed us.
