Peeling old paint

I have just finished reading this article, about home hazards and would like to know what is so dangerous in peeling paint inside the house, as it stated in the article?

Hi,

In many houses built before 1978 lead paint was used. When this paint peels it poses a great danger because of its lead content.
Lead can enter the body in many ways and can cause severe damage to the nervous system and other parts of our body.

The actions needed to be taken if you find out your house has lead paint  are removing the paint in a way that won't create a lot of dust and repainting. This should be done by a professional.
