Peacekeeping in Darfur

I'm a little cynical about politics and government.  Yet, I believe that, from time to time, political leaders do the right thing.  I feel that sending UN or NATO troops for peacekeeping in Darfur would be the right thing for all of the suffering people there.  How can ordinary people express their views, individually or collectively, with most effectiveness in order to move governments to act?

I know this is going to sound tired and cliched, but I would say to write to the leaders who you want to know your opinion. (I'm not sure if you can write letters to the end, but I can't see why not.) One well-written letter might be able to sway some people. (Okay it would take a

really well-written letter, but even if it isn't at the Shakespeare level, if a government official gets enough letters that sound the same opinion, it might impel him to act.)

Billythewhp's answer makes me wonder ... Would a very well-written open letter distributed widely via the Internet make a difference?  Perhaps that's another question.

In any event, I hope that people keep trying to influence government action to save lives in Darfur.

fiona, The UN is nothing without the USA. Look at who is on the ground 80% American and rest is the world. Things would get done if everything was equal. It has always been the case. I wish I was like you, the way you think. I used to think that the people elected will do the right thing. Sorry but it is not the case. That is why I am alway bugging the Senator in my state to start paying attention to what is going on. Sometime I hope that they even read what I have to say. But I get the standard reply. With the power of the internet you have more power than doing things by yourself. Have a good day. Live Free or die..
