MY inferiority complex isn't as good as YOURS

The very first PG-13

Which movie (one of my favorites ever!!) received the very first PG-13 rating and was responsible for it's creation?

I remember that the first film released with a PG-13 rating was "Red Dawn."  However, I didn't realize until now that "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and "Gremlins" were the inspiration for this rating.  I'd also never heard that "The Flamingo Kid" was the first movie to receive a PG-13, though it was released after "Red Dawn."  (I haven't found confirmation that "The Flamingo Kid" was the first; but I have no reason to doubt it.)

Indiana Jones and The Temple Of Doom is correct.I watched the making of it on the extras from the DVD and Lucas said Temple was much darker and gory than Raiders and was supposed to be released with an R rating. He asked for an in-between rating and PG-13 was born.
