PET FEE for resident on SOCIAL SECURITY?

I am on social security. The management office at my building makes you pay a 300 dollar fee for a pet. If I am on social secuirty do I have to pay this.

Because I know a woman however she receives section 8, I don't. She gets it waived or discounted I can't remember.

Does anyone know this information? because I am sure this is something that would not be well known nor discussed typically.

I would believe that discounting these fees would constitute discrimination, and would not in most states, and rental companies be acceptable. Why should someone on SS get a discount on an optional fee? I believe that many rental offices would be open to working with you on this fee as they would not want to have to re-rent your current place. Whats worse is that if indeed the allegation that your friend on section 8 gets discounted or free pet fees, I am appalled and frankly hope this person does not live in Ohio or personally would have to send snail mail properly formatted letters to everyone in our Gov't. Trust me this would be a long task, as I have not sent anything snail mail in over 5 years, maybe more. I don't even snail mail my bills anymore. If I found out I was paying full fees for my animals, but someone on section 8 Gov't assistance was getting a free ride on this, bad deal is all I can say. I would never live anywhere that accepted section 8 people, as generally research and trends indicate significant drops in property values, and a spike in crime rates.

Not in the slightest way at all. I don't think that someone on Gov't  assistance section 8 should receive better pricing than a hardworking person would receive.

Well then why aren't you breaking down the White House doors to retrieve all the WELFARE money doled out for the bailouts? Those BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars could go a looooooooooooooooooong way towards helping people on fixed incomes.

Isn't section 8 hardship? Sounds alot like AIG and Chrysler. You would begrudge a person on SS, with VERY limited funds the right to own an animal because they can't afford the fee charged by the rental company? I'm sorry but I feel everything in this day and age should be based on your income level. Especially when it comes to seniors living on SS.

For some older citizens those animals are the only thing they have, and it's a proven fact that people with pets not only are happier, but healthier and live longer.

I definitely think if the govt. can subsidize the rich, they can subsidize the poor and the elderly. I think the pet fee should be substancially reduced or waived altogether for people living below the poverty level, provided they are American CITIZENS that is.

If my tax dollars can go to bailout the big corps. I'd much rather the money was given to someone who really needed it, then some ass of a CEO who took a MILLION dollars of GOVT. WELFARE money to redecorate his already LAVISH office. Or the rest of them that took LAVISH vacations and used the rest of the money for upkeep on their many LAVISH mansions!!!

And You complain about a FEW hundred dollars???????????????????

I beleive fair housing says you are intitled to a payment plan

Wow, I did mean for this to create such strong opionons. I'm just a girl who dropped out of school over an autoimmune disease and is suffering from severe depression. This was by no means what I want or expected.

Damsel, you didn't cause anything, this goes on all the time on Yedda, no big deal. However have you tried contacting social services maybe they can help you out with the cost of the deposit or tell you what you need to do to get assistance in this area. I certainly think you should qualify for some type of help with the amount or possibly have it waived altogether. Good luck, I sure hope you get to keep your pet they are such good friends to us and really do improve peoples' lives.
