Hi Marciakam,
in regard to your taking 15mg of oxycodone, or percocet 15mg, first let me say that if you even found a doctor to prescribe narcotics for fibromyalgia, be thankful; around here, they will not prescribe any narcotics for fibromyalgia, unless there is some other overlapping disease or pain causing problem. They've got it in they're heads it doesn't work for fibromyalgia patients ( which it does and did so well for the 15 years I was on oxycodone, tyelenol # 4 and hydrocodone--the later being either lortab or lorcet--both being the same drug, just different manufacturer from what the pharmacist told me ). I've not heard of anyone having any problems with swelling taking oxycodone, more commonly known as percocet. You could try breaking the pills in half and seeing what happens, but it would be best to check with your doctor and pharmacist to see if swelling is a common side effect. The only side effect I had to begin with was itching and had to take a 25mg benadryl tablet when it got too bad; the problem with that, was the combined meds made me sleepy, so I had to either itch, or wait till bed time to take the oxycodone. Your doctor could try tyelenol 4, which works almost as well and didn't cause me any side effects other than mild constipation, but its something you need to discuss with your doctor. Either way, I'm glad you are getting some good help with your fibromyalgia, for I've had to go out of town as the only pain management doctor here is firmly against narcotics for fibromyalgia and so was the other pain management doctor I tried in a near by town; thankfully, I have found another pain management doctor and have a lot of pain from osteoarthritis in the back and hip also, so he is currently prescribing Lortab 10mg for that; but, unlike my prior doctor, he doesn't believe in muscle relaxers for long term use and they really do help with fibromyalgia; to me, the somas I used to get made the pain meds work better, but either way, you are getting some help and thats far more help than most people get. This new Lyrica you see advertised on TV that the doctor has me on now at 150mg X 3 a day does absolutely nothing that I can tell for pain. I use a heating pad and a microwavable gel pack I heat up and both help the mid to upper back pain you probably have. If you'll email me, I'll share more suggestions that may help, but trying to save space on this reply. Take care and I hope you'll get the pain relief you so desperately need and deserve. God bless, Mark Savage, Lumberton, NC
