Open door policy

I would like to know if there is a law stating parents must set an appointment before coming into the classroom. I have been coming to my sons class every morning for a year now, but now he has a new classroom teacher that doesn't like me much, so I have been told I need an appointment before coming into the classroom to observe my son. are they pulling my leg or not. I thought schools have an open door policy :-)
