Open-face reel line twist

Why do I get twist knots in my line when casting my spinning outfit? It happens on almost all of my open-face spinning reels, regardless of who put the line on, how much line is on, what type of line it has. BTW - it is not from line coming off the reel against the drag either. I let the line drag behind the boat to let it untwist, which works, but after a couple of hours of casting, it happens again.

The only foolish question is that which remains unasked.

Sounds like the line didn't have enough tension when installed on the reel, or the line is old and needs to be replaced.

oops - the line is brand new. There was too much line at first, but I removed the excess. I really think that the casting motion or the reeling motion is imparting a gradual twist. After dragging the line behind the boat, the twist is gone, but it comes back gradually after maybe 100 casts.
