Ohio Mom Ordered Son to Beat Up Boy, Videotaped Fight

A mother who ordered her 14-year-old son to beat up another boy and then videotaped the fight behind a suburban Columbus school has pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge.

Thirty-one-year-old Tamara Saunders of Gahanna can be heard on the tape encouraging the fight that happened last month behind an elementary school. She says she does not condone violence, but that her son had been taunted by the other boy.

She told police she filmed the fight in case the boy fighting her son claimed injuries that he did not receive in the fight. The boy was not hurt; her son got a black eye.

A magistrate in the city's mayor's court on Thursday put her on one year of probation and fined her $200.

Is this enough of a punishment for this woman? (I hesitate to use the word 'parent' because she clearly is not fit to be one.) Is it possible to learn a lesson from this Court's decision to fine her only $200? Wouldn't it behoove the Court to have this woman attend a class on parenting and bullying?

To make it clear to everyone! This woman DID NOT send her son to beat up this boy! The boy had followed her son home the entire week prior trying to start a fight, pushing and taunting him with "Let's go, come on", finally the son was fed up and the two boys decided to meet at this school. When the son told the mother, she decided to go. The parents wanted to videotape only if the other kids mom was not there so she couldn't try to say he had injuries caused by the son when her son actually threw the first punch. Tamara was brought up to know you NEVER start a fight, Never should you hit someone, UNLESS they hit you first!! Then of course you defend yourself.....

That is the problem with the media today, the NEVER have every fact before reporting a topic!!!! And yet everyone wants to believe what they say......

I agree with your statements 100%. I also feel that the fine was not enough and that yes she should attend classes ans should have to do some time.

In this day and age for "parents" to condone violence is beyond my comprehension. People wonder why there is so much violence in our world today well this is just one example of why.

Best wishes.

Wouldn't it have made sense if Tamara knew that the boys were going to fight, to tell her son not to go, to call the cops and report the harrassment? Not to go with her son to videotape the fight? In my opinion, a responsible parent would have taken legal action, not promoted a fight and taped it.
