Office 2007 GUI Stuck in 8-bit Color

The user interface of Office 2007 turned to 8-bit color (even though Windows is in 32-bit color), and I can't get it back to normal color.  All icons, menus and tabs are in low color, and the Office 2007 logo itself is B&W.  Re-installing Office didn't help.  The problem does not appear if I log on as a different user.  I'm using WindowsXP SP2.  Any help on this topic would be appreciated.

It seems as though these settings are probably configured in the Windows Registry.

You can try uninstalling Office 2007, go the Registry Editor (just go to Start -> Run and type "regedit" and enter). Make sure you are logged in with the problematic user.

In there go to  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office

Stand on the "Office" element and delete it.

NOTE THAT PLAYING WITH THE REGISTRY MAY CAUSE DAMANGE TO YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM THAT MAY LEAD YOU TO REINSTALLING IT!

Do it carefully or ask someone that knows how to do it to do it for you.

After you do that, restart your computer and reinstall Office 2007. This should make things better since you have just deleted all of your Office 2007 configuration settings for your specific user.

This doesnt work as i have just tried it, any other ideas as i am having the same problem.

Eventually I did not uninstall and re-install Office, since I read that people who had the same problem didn't find that helpful.  I noticed that the problem only happens on my user, but not when I log in as a different user.  So what I ended up doing was deleting my user account on the PC, and re-creating that user.  This solved the problem for me - hope it does the same for you.

I had this same problem on one of my computers at home.  Repairing and reinstalling Office 2007 did not fix it.  I did figure out that changing the theme back to one of the default themes did correct the issue.  Just select one of the default windows themes and presto, it is fixed.  Definitely a lot easier thatn recreating the profile.  Just modify your profile to the background you had before with office 2007 installed.
