Odd Behavior

My spouse is definitely suffering with depression. She did something yesterday, during a big depression episode, that really bothers me. We were in the store walking down the isles. She walked 2-3 feet behind me and touched one of every category of items. The manner in which she did it was very strange. She looked at each item and clearly touched or placed her hand on it. She would then drop her hand to her side and touch the next item she came to. What was going on here?

If you feel she is depressed it is your obligation as her spouse to help her. Go to a psychiatrist for medication (it usually works after some time) and to a clinical psychologist  for therapy. Don't put this off because if not treated it could get worse and make it extremely difficult for you and of course her.

It sounds like she could be developing Obessessive Compulsive Disorder --both that and depression can be treated and controlled with medications and/or counseling.  I agree with Rosie --it could get worse if not treated.

If you find yourself in a "goldfish bowl" make it your own personal "ocean."

Hello,

You state your "spouse is depressed" - I was wondering if this was indeed a clinical diagnosis from a psychiatrist, or mere speculation...I agree with other answers in this forum that your spouse should be seen by a professional who can help to put her on the road to recovery in terms of mental health...This forum is good for quick answers, however, your spouse needs medical care.

Having said the above, the symptoms you describe can be due to OCD - and if so, that can be addressed and handled according to your spouses needs, i.e., "therapy; biofeed back; and medication." - The depressive individual presenting with OCD behavior can be successfully treated, and the sooner the better before it develops into further decline.

Good luck, God bless you both~
