Was Obama's globe trotting trip productive?

Obama's Nice Guy Act Gets Him Nowhere on the World Stage

When he entered office, US President Barack Obama promised to inject US foreign policy with a new tone of respect and diplomacy. His recent trip to Asia, however, showed that it's not working. A shift to Bush-style bluntness may be coming.

There were only a few hours left before Air Force One was scheduled to depart for the flight home. US President Barack Obama trip through Asia had already seen him travel 24,000 kilometers, sit through a dozen state banquets, climb the Great Wall of China and shake hands with Korean children. It was high time to take stock of the trip.
Barack Obama looked tired on Thursday, as he stood in the Blue House in Seoul, the official residence of the South Korean president. He also seemed irritable and even slightly forlorn. The CNN cameras had already been set up. But then Obama decided not to play along, and not to answer the question he had already been asked several times on his trip: what did he plan to take home with him? Instead, he simply said "thank you, guys," and disappeared. David Axelrod, senior advisor to the president, fielded the journalists' questions in the hallway of the Blue House instead, telling them that the public's expectations had been "too high."

The mood in Obama's foreign policy team is tense following an extended Asia trip that produced no palpable results. The "first Pacific president," as Obama called himself, came as a friend and returned as a stranger. The Asians smiled but made no concessions.

Don't just rock the boat, turn it over, if you're not on it!

Obama wants people to take the low road. Just his way to control people. I don't know about you but my expectations will always be high. Obama's pshycopolitics won't work if people take the moral high ground. He can't conquer people like that.  President Obama doesn't treat his body very well. I have never seen him pre- condition his self.(exercise, running, jogging). All President's before have taken care of themselves. It helps clear the mind, ease stress, and irritable mood changes. I just think Obama's heart isn't in it. He's lost this momentum.

It may well be that the result of his trip through Asia is that  Obama has had to learn that the USA faces very serious problems and dangerous adversaries, who can not be trusted. Maybe we will profit from this and be able to better assess our  situation and judge what needs doing?

At least talking to them, getting to know them personally and honestly attempting to find mutual interests and restore the world´s respect for America is miles better than just getting everybody´s back up and giving America a bad name by arrogantly refusing any dialog at all !

Well done. Obama !

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?The Shadow Knows

Sympathy for the guilty is treason to the innocent.

Yes, it was productive if his goal was to alienate the US citizens and embolden terrorism. His attitude of apologizing for the US, when they alone except for Britain, have policed the world from scum for decades was humiliating. He showed our weaknesses and we are now completely a paper tiger.

i was watching a very interesting news roundtable on tv a couple of nights ago, with various well-placed and intelligent journalists arguing that Obama's trip East had been - basically - a flop. I'm not an Obama die-hard fan. I'm giving the dude a chance. i don't necessarily agree with how he handled the economic crisis ( how he's handling it. ) To give our hard-earned money to the very schemers and con-men who originally tipped the boat seemed the only logical way ( or so it was explained ) to right the boat again ; but i have more than serious doubts. So, he's in office, if he can keep it : hail to the chief ! If not...well somebody with a little more substance would do us. But, by the way, i think George W. wasn't fit to run a respectable kennel, and that he was a mistake right from the git-go. We have to be truly more critical, not be so fast to shoot off our mouths, but to really dig deep into the questions ( which i admit i'm not doing.)
