Obama's Nobel Peace Prize

Does Barack Obama deserve the Nobel Peace Prize when he hasn't even been President for a year?  Is this award political?

I am Adam Alter !

Compared to some in the past that got it, it might as well go to him, but the award is a joke IMO.

You mention that he hasn't even been President for a year, but the deadline for nominations for this award was Feb 1st 2009.  So if they judge it off what the nominees did up to that point, he had only been in office a few days.

The Nobel Peace Prize is "suppose" to be an honor given to a "humanitarian" who has earned it.  Giving him this award has only blemished the meaning as anyone can be an advocate for peace.

Cool Equal justice for All

The law works but the system needs changed, We all abide by the law but sometime it failes us. The same with the goverment. God bless the USA, Brign our troops HOME safely, To the men who did not get the credit they deserve, MAY GOD WATCH OVER OUR SERVICE MEN.

No dieffently not what has he done to acheave it ask your self does he deserve it. As in my openion he paid for it as it is most generally given to those who deservie it as it is classified as an honor to receive it.

To say nothing, especially when speaking, is half the art of diplomacy.

Like so many people around the world many of us in Israel were in total shock when we heard the announcement that he won. Personally, I have nothing against him and I am glad that he has put the effort in resolving the Middle East conflict as one of his top priorities. However actions speak louder then words. For him to receive the Noble Peace Prize for bold initiatives and not actions is not the purpose of this prize. It reminds me of when Arafat won.

Of course it's Political!!! He was in "Office" only 12 days when the "Decision" was made!!! Even he said he didn't deserve it & a "Spoksperson said they acted upon the "Projected Hope" from his "Campaign Statements" in "Hope" he could do something about the "Nuclear Problems in Iran"!!! What else would U expect from such a "Leftist Organization"???   John

bluebird, loves birds  KIDS  and decent people... caring and loving.. and puppy dogs... we have plenty

NO I DON'T THINK HE DID DESERVE THE PRIZE.   Things at home is in such disarray, people are hungry, and out of jobs.... would he permit his family such a life.  It's so sad to see the lines in the jobs wanted...... He's  bankrupt our country throwing money to banks who in turn rob the people with high interest rates.... it's all confusing...

You can run around the world and hug and shake hands with all of them, but does it improve at home.... Watching the news  today 10-11-09 China was showing their enocomy has slowed and people were hording their pay check.... which was on average       150 dollars per month..... now we see what Nafta wanted and got slaves...labor out of countries with many  willing to work for little.

I am not exactly sure how to answer this question so I will just be honest. I am an Obama supporter. I was very happy to hear of his achievement. I don't know what all this Nobel Peace Prize stuff entails, however, I am sure the country who gives it know. Evidently, he fit the profile for them to award him this honor.

Now, I assume he won the award because of the last eight years of war. . . and when Obama first took office, he has mended relationships with other countries, trying to stop the war, and even during that summit when the Chinese and French president was about to fight, Obama stepped in the middle and calmed them down. It was further said that he had a talk with each of them which in turn caused them to try to be civil. He has taken steps to spread PEACE which is what I assume is what the Nobel Peace Prize is about.
