Nursing home & physician medical records

  1. RE: nursing home oversight  I live in a longterm nursing facility....I had an outside dr (podiatrist)visit me...he came out to see me he examined my feet told me he would not be able to do anything til nerve damage addressed and should be seen by a spinal dr.This dr was an associate of dr. that i had set up an appointment with...as my regular podiatrist his associate was not able to make appointment so he did in his absence.... who was on the nursing homes credentialed drs.at this particular date and time...well his replacement was not credentiled....well to continued the podiatrist because i said i tried p/t very passive for couple days and due to pain and a very weak left foot he told me on his way out he would speak with my physical therapist and advise her what he had told me.... he also said i had a cyst under right foot...well shortly after he left a person on staff came in to tell me...she appeared upset...told me this dr has no credentials at this faciity...and walked out...also when saw physical therapist that was doing the exercise with me wanted to know what he told me as he...i did not state for weeks later what he had told me and did not want to make a problem for him or my reg podiatrist....  (the therapist said that this podiatrist was interferring.)....They told me there was no notes in chart because this dr was not credentiled.....If although dr. not credentialed but was still seen by him and i am in care of nursing home and that dr i originally asked could not make appt as was out of town-he was credentiled and reason why he asked his associate out of his very own office......also would have thought drs in general would know.protocol..Now i decided i would call my drs office left word for him to call he did get back to me in and inspite of what just happened he would be in to see me anyway...telling me his office would call me ....they never did.....Ive practically pleaded for them to just jot down note stating he was here and did examine me and advised of his reccommendations....as i truly do not want to make a formal complaint to the dept of public health can someone please advise also if known what the law says...one other question  facility gives you drs notes and you are unable to read them and need something in writing what does one do also to interperate notes as being fully understood and not told verbally so one not mislead unintentionally  ...please anyone who knows let me know ...sincerely...??  ......by the way the dr im referring to am told no longer on list

Caring for others like thyself.

 Truth, Justice~the American way.

God is great, a Smilebeer is good, People are crazy!

You do not tell us what state you are in.  I can only refer to the Laws of the State of Florida, where I reside.

You have a right to examine your medical chart at any time.  However, presuming you are a lay person (unable to understand what should have been written), the Facility has the Obligation, as you have the Right, to have a MEDICAL PROFESSION sit with you and your Medical Chart and explain fully the contents.  If any treatment is prescribed, you have the right to fully understand the risk versus the benefit of this treatment.  If this Doctor examined you, a Medical Note MUST be the Chart.

It is just plain lazy of the physician not to have made notations in your chart, rather he was approved by the facility or not. I can assure you he billed your Insurance Carriers.

That is the way it is in the State of Florida.  Do not be intimadated in filing a complaint.  This is the only way the system works.  You have to weed the garden and get rid of the BAD weeds!

I hope this has helped you in some way.

Season Greetings.
