Number of people trying to lose/gain weight

Is it known how many people in the US are trying to lose weight and how many are trying to gain weight? I have a bet with a friend, he says the number of those trying to gain weight is less than 1% of those trying to lose weight, and I think it's over 1%.

I have to say that I don't think there are very many people at all who say that they want to put on weight.  I'd say only those who previously had a problem with losing too much weight (as in, they had an eating disorder) or someone who has been sick... and need to gain some weight.  Here is some

I know that %95 of all dietsing fail, so basically anyone who's unhappy with their wiehgt is on a diet forever, but nothing changes much.

I would say %75 of the population want to lose weight, though quite a few of them don't have to. Probably no more than %1 want to gain weight, but this data excludes people who should want to gain weight but are too sick to realize this.

That's an interesting question.  I think it's safe to say that more than 50% of north americans should be trying to lose weight, but whether they actually are attempting that is the questions.

As far as gaining weight, I'd imagine that a very small percentage are faced with that "problem".
