Were novices having last bought a Sony higher end receiver in 1975; it lasted all this time only dying a few years back. Were now in the market for a new one, but a bit lost in the maze of acronyms and new technology. We have monster sized JBL 's (L112) which pre-date most all of you, but these still sound awesome-these will be our primary speakers. We have been impressed with a Onkyo TX-NR807 as it can be updated via high speed internet (which we cannot get). Were on dial-up with a dedicated line (however we think technology may change and eventually come up with something to help people who live far awayfrom cities). We tried the Verizon air card but that was disapointing. We are willing to take the monitor where it could be periodically updated on-line. Hopefully this will be our last receiver. This receiver is a bit pricey ($1,000) it has the ability to use a phonograph and this is very important to us (as we have an extensive vinyl record collection). We understand this Onkyo is loaded with technology that is found in higher end receivers. We are also looking for small studio moniters for our bedroom and the Definity 350 caught our attention (these are $500 a pair). We aren't into movies, but we plan to get a flat screen TV in the near future, but have not decided on one yet. We like listening to jazz, classical and easy listening recordings of the past as we are older baby boomers (60++). Are these selections good compatability with what we want? Are we paying too much? Are there better options out there for less $$$$? Are there technical problems and bugs with these selections? Will this purchase affect our future choice of a plasma HD TV? (we have a satellite dish to get cable & HD but a high speed internet connection is way too expensive by sattelite). ANY advise from you experts out there will be greatly appreciated! We are
and vulnerable to sales predators.
Thanks!!
