Northern side of the city

in most major cities of the world, the northern part of it is usually the more lucrative and affluent. Is this a coincidence or is there a historic reason for this?

Most locations in the world are like this, I know there are some

exceptions.

I was late for work this morning, because I got stuck in Zeno's paradox

My guess is that something in the northern parts of the cities makes them more attractive, and therefore the well to do people grabbed those areas, leaving the south for the poor people. It might be that north-facing homes are more pleasant (cooler in summer, warmer in winter) or perhaps the wind blows pollution from factories more southwards.

My guess is the more affluent choose a spot that allows them maximum access to the center while maintaining a higher life quality in terms of quiet and space, and then gradually and naturally real estate prices are set, and people find themselves buying what they can afford.

I've never been to the Southern Hemisphere, I wonder if the North side of town in Australia is also reserved to the richer...
