Nina Simone's Bach solo

In Nina Simone's version of "My Baby Just Cares For Me" she plays a beautiful piano solo, which I heard was a variation on a piece by Johann Sebastian Bach. The solo indeed sounds like a variation on something that Bach could have wrote, but I don't know if it's actually a Bach piece or just a "Bach-like" piece.

So, can anyone tell me if the solo really is based on a piece by Bach, and if so which piece?

There is such a little snippet, it's hard to tell, but it sounds like one of the 2 part Inventions, maybe C major?.  If she took piano lessons, the 2 and 3 part inventions are staples.

If you want to listen to a recording and see if you can pinpoint the exact one, which I am not sure if it's possible (if you learn enough of them, you can take any four notes theme and make it sound like a Bach invention using the same techniqueWink), try Glen Gould's recording of Bach's 2 and 3 Part Inventions.  If you can't pick it out of there, at least you have listened to the greatest of all time recording of the Bach Inventions.

Thanks.

Gould's recording is indeed great. I own it for some years and I love it very much. I tried to listen to it and find the original Bach piece upon which Simone's solo is based, but so far I didn't succeed. Maybe it really is just a Bach-like solo. Simone should know how to pull that trick, since she started out as classical pianist.
