Nikon d300 dslr Dust problem

My Nikon D300 has dust iN the shot when i look thru the view finder.  the Sensor has been cleaned with a loupe magnifier present.  It appears there is no dust on the low pass and the lens is clean as well as the viewfinder.

Where the heck is this dust residing that is making me nuts.  It only shows up when i look at a sky shot and i cannot find it.

I dont want to send the camera off but need help.  is there another place dust can reside to make it show up when i look thru the cam?

I'm a bit confused.  Do you see the dust in your actual images, or just when you look through the viewfinder?  If it's not present in shots, but is present in the viewfinder, cleaning the sensor will not help.

Since DSLRs are just that: SLR (single lens reflex), you are looking through not only your main objective lens, but your mirror, your ground glass, and the lens mounted to your camera as well.

Dirt in the viewfinder usually resides on the ground glass above the mirror.  If a can of Dust Off does not remove it (and be CAREFUL with that stuff!!) then I recommend sending it back to the manu for a thorough cleaning.  Alternatively, you may find a local camera shop that specializes in cleanings.

Yes it showed up in the photo but, since then I gained a little more confidence in cleaning and determined that the dust was not on the sensor but actually behind the flip up mech.  I looked thru the viewfinder and cleaned with a swab and I am good to go.  Thank you for the reply!!  I finally just gave up and went for it!
