A:

A lot is based on the surveys TV networks do on the "likeability" factor of news anchors and reporters. I think they're called Q Scores. Unfortunately, looks still matter even among viewers which is why all the women look beyond perfect and the men are often eye-candy, as well. I do agree Fox has taken it to a whole new level. I can't tell one female anchor from the other. The stiff hair, piles of makeup and expensive wardrobes--often with short skirts to reveal as much leg as possible sitting or standing--is over the top! I'd like to see a few of them out in the elements covering a hurricane or blizzard to see how well the hair and makeup hold up and if designer parkas really do exist in the news world.
