New York Stores Accept Eros

If you had a choice of paying in US dollars or Euros, which would you choose?

Don't you find it strange that New York stores now accept Euros?

I'll search, while you Cool wait.

It depends upon the Foreign Exhange Rate.  If I could save money by spending the Euro then I would and vice versa.  I have been in these situations while living abroad.  I've had to decide if I wanted to pay with currency of the host country or U.S. Dollars because they accepted both.  No, I don't find it strange.  This practice is not new in other countries, but in New York, the melting pot of many cultures is setting a new trend here, but nothing new to most of them condoning the practice of accepting Euro.  This is a definite sign that  the dollar value is shrinking, and the Euro is larger in value.  Then it would make sense as to why they are accepting the Euro.  However, I have not literally viewed the Foreign Exhange Rate online today.  Now, after what you've reported in a sense, I dare not look.  But if they are grasping for the Euro, then the dollar is low and merchants can take the Euro to the bank and exchange it for for a higher trade value.  What I mean is -- if you had the opportunity to trade a Euro for $2.00 of American money -- would you do it?  For example:  A  merchant may have sold an item for .99 and the Euro may be worth (hypothetically) .99 cents when paid at the register, but if you trade the Euro at the bank it may be worth a lot more.   The dollar will not always reign supreme.  Apparently, this is evident in the New York stores.  Just a few weeks ago, the dollar was worth .67 cents and the Euro was worth $1.47.  Almost doubled.

Just copied the following from my AOL home page:

NEW YORK (Feb. 7) - In the latest example that the U.S. dollar just ain't what it used to be, some shops in New York City have begun accepting euros and other foreign currency as payment for merchandise.

For U.S. Dollar

The euro has grown stronger as the U.S. dollar has declined. Some stores in New York City now advertise that they accept euros as payment.

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

I wonder why are you surprised..... if the dollar is shrinking why not accept a more stable coin ?......  In many countries around the world one can pay in a variety of currencies.  No problem to "translate" the currency to local money and give you the exchange in local currency.....  In Israel one can pay in Dollars, Euro, British pounds, and other......  It's a very common event..... no one will be surprised..... not even taxi drivers...
Best regards,

Yes.  I think that is really weird.  I'm not sure why.  I'm sure it has something to do with the dollar and its downfall.  It's really bad for the US economy though, to all the sudden start accepting Euros.  At least it is just NY.

US dollars, as the dollar is so cheap to pay with right now.

I don't find it strange actually.  Retailers are trying to attract customers, and accommodate their customers. Retailers are also trying to obtain a more stable currency.  Smart move.

But I find it really insulting.  Many Canadians spend tonnes of money in New York City and other locations near the border each and every day consistently, and they are not given this option.  And they visit more to New York than any other citizen of any other country.  Quite unusual then that one group is not seen as having value, while another is, although both currencies have grown in strength next to the American Dollar.

Nothing weird in this decision , actually I am surprised it didn't happen  earlier. I would personally pay in dollars since a store will never offer an up to date exchange rate. You will probably loose money .

personaly I think the green backs time has come to be more personlized for the usa

And take the mens photos off it.

And put ships and or historical places on the green backs in place of the men.

And reduce the mens photo smaller if it has to stay on at all.
