New Cockatiel questions

we found a cockatiel flying around our house about a week ago it flew down to use after about 2 hours.  We decided to keep it.  Why does it pace back and forth in its cage? How do I know if it is a male or feamle? Do I have to keep his cage covered at night time? Any help would be nice.  This is the first time I have ever had a bird.

8 thumbs up

There are only 2 things in life that are constant....change and change.

well, as a pet owner myself I would suggest checking local papers and make sure noone is missing their beloved pet.

However, cocktiels just pace, its not a bad thing. I am not sure about the sex...`i think has to be checked by vet to be determined.  If it is close to a draft you may put a towel over cage, some prefer that while others dont.  I hope this helps you.

The larger the cage the better. also lots of toys . A bird doesnt perch in a tree with no leaves . same for a home bird. feed fresh veggies and fruit . a mirror also . give this bird lots of time to adjust . COVER the cage at night and make sure any dogs etc . dont site and stare at the bird .also make sure the cage has its back to a wall . and best in a corner of an active room

You can give your cockatiel,  apples, pear, mango, pineapple, broccoli, lettuce (only endive and chicory), cucumber, carrots.
