The nervous tics come from early puberty most times. It will wear out after awhile. But to understand why she has these tics is to understand that an 8 y.o. girl that loves playing with dolls, tea partys and having fun with her friends is now having to deal with her period. She's 8, she doesn't want to grow up now, have a talk with her on the reason females have these "strange new feelings" and explain that she can and is still a child enjoying her youth and not to worry about having to grow up now. Her nervous tics are caused because she is probably the only one in her immediate play group that has began puberty and is ashamed of having her period, it is "Yucky" to an eight year old, just explain to her that some girls begin earlier than others and her friends will catch up and when they do that she can be their shoulder to lean on and talk to. If you are unsure about how to approach this ask your doctor for pamplets on the issue...it may help you get started.
