If you can't handle the truth, why bother to ask the question?

If the negative remark is inaccurate, send a letter to the credit bureau and find out the steps for having it removed.  It's relatively simple but I see no point in explaning without knowing whether the information is accurate or not.

If the remark is accurate, fix whatever the problem is!  Late (even 2 years late) is better than not at all.  A company can report at any time...2 years later for example.  And this can and usually will stay on your credit report for 7 years.  Other than that, pay everything on time and your record of timely payments will eventually speak for itself.

Call the credit card brural and ask them your situation and ask them don't they expire after certain period since they don't report the nagative point into the system.  Good luck

Negative history can impact your credit for 7 years.  If you have a bad payment history with one company, and they turned it over to a collection agency, you could see 2 bad reports for the one bad account.  Some companies are slimy about how they handle unpaid debt, but no more slimy than those who don't pay their debt.

Remember...it's your money!

Just remember that even if you do pay the bill now, it will still show up as a negative on your credit report for some time to come. After you pay it, you may need to contact the company and respectfully request that they no longer report the account to the credit bureaus. If they refuse to stop reporting the info, write a short note explaining the circumstances and send it to the credit bureaus to be added to your credit file. It will help potential creditors in their decision to offer you credit.

It's true that a negative can be reported anytime, even years later. Most of the time, though, it's 7 years or less from the last date of activity on the account.

I wish you the best...Janna
