If you need a new handle for the lid of a saucepan, we've found that drawer pulls work quite well and are relatively inexpensive.
You can find a wide variety at most hardware stores (Ace, Home Depot, Restoration Hardware). Just make sure the opening will match up to the threaded hole in your lid. (And make sure the new handle will stand up to heat if you plan to ever use it in your oven in addition to stovetop use.)
