Need to lower creatine to save funtioning part of kidney

How can I lower my father's creatine level and what can he eat so he doesn't lose the little bit of function in his remaining kidney?

I was late for work this morning, because I got stuck in Zeno's paradox

In general, a diet low in proteins should help lower creatine levels. Get your father on to a diet where he eats very little fish and meat. It is best to discuss this with a professional dietitian, who can give a list of foods that he should avoid and foods that he should eat.

hon-- go see a dietician. they can offer you suggestions on how to change his diet. an RN also should know that, but dietician is best. i am shocked that his physician did not recommend anything to you. maybe call the doctor and tell him you want that information, he maybe even willing to tell you.. otherwise. insist on a referral!!!

As far as lowering his amount of creatine intake I really don't know what to tell you, however there is a really great website about reducing the amount of protein intake for people with kidney disease

70 thumbs up

first let me explain that the word is not CREATINE, it is CREATININE...i am a dietitian and work with hemodialysis patients. i would recommend that you and your father go see a dietitian. is your father on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis? do you know what his creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels are?

a diet low in protein is the correct dietary step to make. his actual grams of protein/Kg of body weight intake depends on his bloodwork/dialysis situation i.ll save you the scientific explanation. there are other foods that have protein in them besides meat and fish (dairy products, legumes, etc).

get professional advice from an RD. to find an RD in your area, go to the american dietetic association website: www.eatright.org and look for one.

monitor his bloodwork.
