Need info on Old Edge Brand Solingen German Knife

edge brand solingen germany knife 478 I have an old knife with a black leather and steel handle. The one side says 478 and the other Edgebrand Solingen Germany. Does anyone have any information on it? It's been in the family awhile and I would like to know.
