Myth of wating at the airport

We've all heard stories of people who pack their bags, go to the airport, wait around a bit and end up getting a flight for almost nothing ,but has anyone actually done it?

Well, this might be less relevant when in many countries there are cheap airlines, but the logic you're describing is the one that lies in the base of all the last minute travel agencies.

If you wait long enough, these companies offer you cheap tickets to flights about to take off - there are vacant seats, and they rather sell them for cheaper prices than keep them empty (most of the times they'll even offer you a cheaper ticket on a 2-way flight).

Most of the contact customers have with these last minute travel agencies is through the phone or a website. However, many of these agencies have airport offices, where you can get REALLY last minute tickets, and that's where the cheapest deals are made.

Note that it's irrelevant to flights with high demand, since there are long waiting lists, and they tend to fill the aircraft without much problem even if a passanger cancels in the last minute.

i've never heard of the hanging-around-begging-for-cheap-flights routine. i'd guess what it is is if passengers don't show up the airline sells their ticket off on the cheap to raise a few extra dollars. I'd guess at it only being one way, not return.

Hi Skooby

The case you are describing is not necesarrily true. It can be that sometimes there will be some seats left and so you will get your ticket for a very cheap price, but most of the times the airlines would not go as low as you think.

From my experience, I wanted to take a vacation to Turkey last winter, and I waited one day before the flight was due. When I called to make the reservation I got a much cheaper price.. That is something I highly recommend if you want to save "a few" dollars..Wink

In my day job I write about Blood Pressure Treatment and treat those who suffer from blood pressure problems. Low blood pressure is a particular interest and I'm often asked about how to lower cholesterol levels. A healthy heart is becoming a huge focus for many of us nowadays. Improving your blood pressure control and thus the health of your heart and circulation system is really important. My most recent online "adventure" is to start a facility for people to ask me my opinion and to provide high quality medical advice online.

I also have a special interest in the problem of feeling Tired All the Time and in those who suffer from chronic fatigue or lethargy. This seems to tie in also to skin care issues or skin treatment problems and suggestions. Tiredness and fatigue can lead to major problems for many individuals in modern society and the way that this can affect all areas of general health can be quite invasive in terms of daily life and coping skills.

My work with footballers and athletes leads to a focus on Painful Shoulder conditions and on the problems associated with frozen shoulder or whiplash injuryRotator cuff injury causes problems for many of my patients.

When not working I daydream about my next amazing european vacation trip  My favorite European cities include Paris and Barcelona and my next blog project will be to write about the best way to spend a night in Paris and how to find an apartment in Barcelona. I just love European travel in all its forms.

Cancer treatment

My brother tried it once but gave up after waiting for two days with no ticket offered.

I'm not sure I would have the patience for it

Too much hassle when you can jump on a cheap flight carrier nowadays anyway.

I guess if you have all the time in the world and either great friends or a great book for company then go for it - but it doesn't appeal to me much
