Myth or Fact: Jewish people suffer more from stomach ailments?

Is it true that Jewish people of Eastern European origin tend to have more sensitive stomaches than average?  I have heard that diseases like Chrones are much more common in Jews.  Why?

I am Jewish and I have heard this before. I think it's often said because as Jews, we worry a lot. Worrying a lot causes indigestion, thereby causing sensitive stomachs to have medical problems. Does that make sense?

I don't know.  I think that there are actually Jewish genes that are known in Ashkenazic people to cause stomach problems, especially Chrones Disease.  I have even heard my stomach doctor talking about this before.  It's very interesting, I have to say.

I have Krohn's as well as being lactose intolerant, and am of Jewish descent. My ancestor's come from various eastern european countries, and I know of at least 2 other close relatives who also have Krohn's as well. I have heard from 2 gastro docs that these issues do, indeed, seem to be more prevelant in Eastern European Jewish descendents, and likely has to do with differences in diet, etc., just like African-Americans seem to have more cases of Sickle Cell...I suggest heading to Web MD for more info if you are courious.
