How does having a MySpace profile page with thousands of friends help a websites SEO?

Social media sites are the places where people gather in thousands. It means that greater exposure to your business. I don't think that just having a profile page in social networking sites do any good. You must be active taking part in polls and forums and all. This lets people know that you are out there!

Social networking is only beneficial if you are, and glenn stated, active . And even so, it is mainly a marketing tool, rather than a SEO tool. A MySpace alone with a trillion friends will do nothing for you SE rankings unless you are really active within that community and offer really great content, products and services. This way your myspace peers might feel enticed to spontaneously link to your content and site. And then, you will actually get better search engine rankings.
You're right Cyfree social networking is a marketing tool rather than a SEO tool. It's always better to run the show where more people gather. And that's the case of social networking. I just said that it's an opportunity for SEO too. I am I right?

Hi,
IMHO you need to view Social Media as an additional effort which only indirectly can add additional drive to your rankings. With SEO you tune your website and make it just right for the search engines to crawl and index you, Your reputation and authority will be the key factors in obtaining good rankings. Social Media can play a role, increasing your popularity with the crowds ... now having said that you understand that SM isn't an appropriate media to use for all industries and markets and you need to be careful before pumping money into SM
The search for people who can answer your question continues for as long as needed - until you find the answer you were looking for.
When an answer is posted by someone who was invited (byYedda or by yourself) to answer your question, their answer is marked with a yellow "invited by Yedda".
To be invited to answer other people's questions in your areas of knowledge and interest, be sure to list your favorite topics:
» My Settings My Topics.
Of course, the more helpful your answers are, the more likely you are to be invited to future questions...

Being an active member of a social community can help but you need to contribute quality and create a community around yourself.
Yes Glenn... you are right. It is a SEO opportunity of you want to branch out, reach out to the community. And it is not something that can be used by every industry even though I think nowadays you can find a social media niche for just about every industry if you look around.
MYSpace IMO works mainly for the pop and indie arts scene, FaceBook is a bit more diverse... It is all about spending some time in them and detecting opportunities.
yeah,
myspace, facebook, orkut are useful to generate traffic for your site, just post link in it and you will get traffic from it,
but in seo, social bookmarking and link building is also important,

I see a lot of benefit from sites like Facebook and Myspace. You are building your network online and trying to own as much of the SERP's pages as possible.
Why rank your page for your main keyphrase when you can rank your page, your facebook page, your myspace page etc... Until the advent of social media sites like these it was hard to do this and now you can own 1-5 or more listing in the SERP's page instead of just 1.
