I think what we are seeing in this situation is a reoccuring , albeit extreme, profile of a male perpetrator. Among a long list of characteristics, there is a belief of entitlement, a need to control, a view of women as property, not human beings with needs and wants. No matter how "civilized" a person may seem, if this is the core belief system they are operating from, an act (like a wife stating her intention to leave the marriage), would be a trigger. This is not a profile that is unique to any one race or religion.
