I would say that gang involvement has little to do with music, if anything.  Gang involvement is a socio-economic in nature.  People get into gangs to feel part of a family, for protection or to feel cool.  I know that music glorifies some of the gang life issues, but it in no way encourages people to go out and join.

Listen, music has a huge influence on life...just as life has a huge influence on music. Like moths to a flame, people with be attracted to whatever group best fits their needs. People in gangs are craving acceptance on many levels, also they need that 'family' to fill their needs. Many kids in gangs are from really bad families, parents in jail, on drugs, kids left alone to fend for themselves. No nurturing, no involvement from the parents...You need to look up Sigmund Freud and his theories on the ID, the Ego, and The Super Ego, his theories elaborate on the theory of Inner Desires. Look this up and you will understand.

Do anything about what?  Kids getting into gangs?  There is always something to be done.  We have to teach our kids empathy, honor and respect.  If we teach our kids by example.  We have to show them that we care about them without spoiling them.  We have to respect them as individuals and honor their feelings.  Our daughter is three and we listen to her and treat her with respect.  Once kids are into gangs we have little effect as they no-longer see their parents as role-models.

no i think peer pressure has a lot to do with gang involvement, not music.
