My son is 16 and he's been getting muscle cramps. Dehydration comes to mind, but he appears to drink enough (maybe not). Any other explanations? The cramps are usually in his calves or thighs. Walking it out doesn't seem to help.

You didn't mention what he is doing when he gets the cramps so it is a bit harder to tell you what the cause is. So to keep it simple if you visit this site it will tell you all about the different types of cramps, what causes them and how to treat them.

Good luck and best wishes.
I'm the type of girl who will burst out laughing in dead silence because of something that happened yesterday.
I think you should take your son to the doctor.

Just because he looks like he is drinking enough doens mean that he is. Definetly let him know he needs to stay hydrated. also if he is an athlete its important that he stretches properly before hand. It could be a number of things. tell him to stand on his tips toes and stretch out his calve muscles when he does get them. also get him to drink something and rub the area that it hurts. A heating pad might also help as well as a cool pack. Like 15 mins on with warm and 15 mins on with cool. Also warm baths or showers could help.
