It would be best to know her name first. Check the local library micofilm file if you know the date. Most newspapers have a "morgue", a name for their past articles, some have indexes on computer and there may be a fee for the use. If you find the name it's easier to find out the disposition of the case. Also the Bureau of vital statistics, County Records Offfice would have a record of her death. You can try the PIO (Public Information Officer) of the police department. Murder books are not destroyed and they can tell you the outcome of the case. Departments won't release much information on open or unsolved cases. Just ask if the case was ever solved and if a suspect was ever charged. Many cases are cleared "by exception", that is they know who did it but never had enough evidence to file charges or other circumstances.
