Thank you for joining me in my search for the titles of these two movies.  I did stumble across the answers to my questions somewhere on the internet recently...sorry I can't remember where.  The story about the baby growing up in the machine room of a ship and becoming a famous composer was from the movie "The Legend of 1900" and the other movie staring James Stewart about a marriage for the sake of a green card is "Come Live with Me."
