I have a 8 year old mare (ex barrel horse) due to foal Feb. 23, 2009 and her colt who is 15 months old in the same pasture. When I take one or the other out of the pasture and seperate them for a day out or even an hour out. The mare acts like she did when he was first born and he acts the same. I have never seen such a reunion between mother and foal or is this common? And when she foals are we looking for a regression in this colt? We weaned him by sending her to be bred.
The colt is a wonderful horse and we have already begun lunging, ponying and putting only a child size saddle with blankets on him all of which he has responded postive to.
