The Mosul Dam in Iraq in Danger of Collapse

The Mosul Dam in Iraq (though never particularly sturdy) is now in real danger of collapsing. The dam holds about 3 trillion gallons of water. The estimated catastrophe if it takes place is half a million casualties, and a total destruction of the cities of Mosul and extensive parts of Baghdad at least.

Can America be held responsible if this happens?

Will the troops come home on time?

Is anyone doing something about this?

According to the Americans the

Iraqis built it on unstable soil and they already invested 27 million dollars trying to reconstruct it. I think there is enough to blame the Us for so why add up a dam as well.

Hi,

On the one hand I think that it's true that the Iraqi's probably didn't build the best dam in the world, but you must remember. Since the US invaded Iraq there really isn't anyone who can attend to all of the problems in this country (not that the attention before was that great, but never mind that).

As far as I'm concerned, the US is responsible for such problems and has an obligation (whether they like it or not) to solve them. If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. If the dam collapses the US will be accountable for it.
