I'm the type of girl who will burst out laughing in dead silence because of something that happened yesterday.

I'm not aware there's a way to get the insurance company to cover this. You might try having a professional doctor write into the insurance company to explain your situation (that medication is expensive and has proven to be ineffective) and see what they say. Good luck!

If your doctor thinks this medication will work for you, see if he can get you some free samples from the drug rep to try first. If you get a good result he will have a stronger case if he contacts your insurance company for you. If it doesn't work then it won't matter if they won't cover it. Drug reps give free samples to doctors all the time when they want that doctors business, which is exactly what they will be getting if it works and you can talk the insurance into it. If you are going to your family doctor for these meds and having trouble finding the right one, have him refer you to a psychologist. It's been my experience that in difficult cases it takes someone more experienced with these drugs and who specializes in psychological medicine to find the right one. A specialist will also be better getting your insurance to cooperate, I think the insurance companies take them more seriously. Good Luck!

Go to another professional who treats depression and he or she will deal with the insurance company by making a diagnosis.  As far as I know all kinds of clinical depression is covered by insurance.  If the depression is not life threatening which I cannot imagine a depression not being life threatening an insurance company won't cover it.  Let the doctor decide what to put down on insurance forms.

Knowing Others is Intelligence.   Knowing Yourself is True Wisdom...

Short of paying out more money to your present health insurer or getting a court order then frankly you can’t do a thing, however, there are alternatives. Health care providers typically employ financial counselors to help people find all the options available to cover the cost of their treatment. There are sliding fee rates, payment plans, and charity care programs all in place as a means to help as many people as possible, regardless of that person’s personal income.

My suggestion is for you to call a treatment center, and make an appointment to speak with a financial counselor. Explain your situation, and as far as getting treatment goes, I'm confident you will be able to make your financial issues, a non-issue. Hang in there and remember, whenever you think you’re going thru hell, the best thing to do is keep right on going.  Good Luck To You...
